Our enhanced version of NASA's emulsified zero-valent iron (EZVI). We created a better emulsion for faster results! We call it SourceKill™.
What Is SourceKill™?
Emulsified Zero-Valent Iron (EZVI) is competitively priced, fast acting, in-situ DNAPL source area reduction product. As a “water in oil” emulsion consisting of nano/micro scale zero-valent iron, EZVI selectively targets, then dehalogenates, halogenated hydrocarbons (e.g. PCE, TCE, CFC, VC) in soil and groundwater. By emulsifying the nano/micro zero-valent iron within a micelle, we achieve three proven benefits for DNAPL source reduction.
First, the micelle is attracted to the DNAPL through sequestration between two hydrophobic materials in groundwater. Second, once the DNAPL sequesters within the micelle, it is chemically dehalogenated and the parent DNAPL degrades into daughter products. Third, as the micelle breaks apart, it provides a rich source of carbon to enhance continued biological reductive dechlorination remediation. (Note: RemQuest is the former remediation products division of TEA.)
Targeted. Effective. Long-lasting.
SourceKill™ is a water in oil emulsion consisting of nano/micro scale zero-valent iron, surfactant, food-grade vegetable oil, and water that reductively dehalogenates halogenated hydrocarbons (e.g. PCE, TCE, CFC, VC). SourceKill™ is manufactured specifically to create an emulsion of micelles that matches the physical chemistry of DNAPLs to deliver reactive iron particles, enabling full miscibility with contaminants in the subsurface. Thus, SourceKill™ is a source area remediation technology.

SourceKill™ EZ Flow Information
SourceKill™ EZ Flow is a TEA proprietary product with an enhanced EZVI formulation that allows for lower viscosities of approximately 50% and thus ease of injection and delivery into various subsurface lithologies. The proprietary adjustments maintain the true essence and application of SourceKill™ while enhancing the deliverability of the product to focused source areas.”
SourceKill™ Plus Information
SourceKill™ Plus is a product that includes dehalogenating bacteria cultures used in combination with the original SourceKill™ product. The cultures are obtained from reliable vendors that have supplied dehalogenating cultures that can be effectively co-administered with SourceKill™ resulting in enhanced reductive dechlorination
Advantages
Developed/patented by NASA
Field-tested by the U.S. EPA under the SITE Program
Primarily used for in-situ DNAPL source area destruction
Typical source concentration decrease ~90+% within 3 months
The only surfactant-stabilized water-in-oil emulsion containing zero-valent iron particles
Hydrophobic, dense emulsion absorbs DNAPL, delivering contaminant to iron
In-situ chemical reduction of chlorinated solvent to ethene and water
Injection or soil mixing using conventional technologies
Does not promote mobilization of DNAPL
TEA is the largest custom manufacturer/supplier of SourceKill™, providing reactive, stable emulsions since 2005
